Nalorakk

nalorakk

The first boss of Zul’Aman and also one of simpler ones, although not necessarily easy, additionally this guy is right next to the entrance of the instance, just run in a bit and you’ll see him.  Nalorakk’s a simple boss not requiring much in the way of tactics.

Troll Form

Brutal Swipe

A frontal cleave attack that can deal up to around 10,000 or more on plate, damage is split evenly between raid members should they both be standing in front of him, this should be your tanks.

Mangle

Only used in troll form, this deals around 1K damage and increases bleed damage taken by 100% on the target.

Surge

Deals around 4000 damage, also only used in troll form, this charges a random party member and knocks them back a bit.  This is reduced in damage by armor and anyone standing nearby the target will also be hit.

Bear Form

Lacerating Slash

Bleed attack that deals 1,735 damage every two seconds for 18 total seconds, only used in bear form.

Rend Flesh

Only utilized in bear form, another bleed attack that deals 2,335 damage every second for a total of 5 seconds.

Deafening Roar

Used once every time he shifts into bear form, an AoE roar ability that deals around 1250 or so damage and also silences everyone for two seconds.

Fight

Nalorakk will be quite the hard fight mainly upon your tanks, agro generation isn’t really the problem here, rather it’s making sure that the tank who’s holding his attention doesn’t go down before they switch as he changes forms.

Troll Form

Troll form is most likely what I would call the easier phase as the most important mechanic is keeping both tanks standing on-top one-another to split the brutal swipe damage.  A lot of spiking damage changes throughout this phase, so I’d keep both tanks topped off especially when getting close to bear form phase.

In general this is a tank n’ spank phase, once the tank has secured threat just begin burning down the boss, ranged DPS will have to watch out for Nalorakk’s charge attack in this phase as well.  Overall this isn’t too hard, so keep on beating the boss down as you prepare for bear phase.

Bear Form

The instant Nalorakk changes into bear form is probably the easiest moment for you to lose a tank, bear form tank will have to be on the ball with his taunt to pull Nalorakk else your mangled tank will pick up a bleed debuff.  Mangle increases bleed damage dramatically therefore
you’ll be healing up two tanks whilst enduring the damage heavy phase of Nalorakk should this happen.

Should your bear tank get Nalorakk on him in time, then you’ll at the very least be dealing with the bleed attacks stacked on him.  At times both abilities will be going at the same time, requiring your healers to spam heals to keep the tank topped off in preparation for phase changes.

Once, rarely twice, you’ll get hit with deafening roar, a two second silence, if this goes off on a bad timing you’ll be running into some hard times for tank survival, another reason to keep him topped off if at all possible.

Finally, once he switches back to troll form immediately switch formation of the tanks, having your troll tank taunt the boss off as fast as possible.  Keep up the healing throughout silences and damage spikes and your raid should do fine.
