War, and more War.

Mists of Pandaria is, in part, about the war between the Horde and the Alliance.

Orc in Malevolent Gladiator Gear, looking for Alliance to killLandfall turns that up a notch. It brings the  Krasarang Wilds battlefield, where both factions will be able to slaughter each other, especially on PvP servers. New quest hubs and new scenarios in that area will insure that Horde and Alliance are in each other’s faces, constantly. If you’re on a PvP server and not yet 90 you should get there soon and get into some PvP gear ASAP.

Will guilds be forming groups to clear the opposing factions from their areas? They already seem to be doing just that in places. If you’re on an RP server then this should be a pretty good excuse to play up the war. PvE servers will be a lot lower stress. 😉


The Alliance’s Operation Shieldwall and the Horde’s Dominance Offensive are looking for skilled operatives, you and your associates, to inconvenience (Ok, OK… slaughter) the other side. RPers can play up Garrosh Hellscream’s destruction of Theramore and the Alliance’s response to same.

Players will be able to kill NPCs, important ones, as well as other players. Commendations can be earned from this and they can be used to upgrade your base. Other rewards will have similar faction enhancing value. This does bring up the question of how well this will work on highly imbalanced servers…

More Patch Details

The Bliz patch notes are here. In this post I’ll include things that stand out for me. MMO-CHampion has some 5.1 hotfixes, for Nov. 29.

Gear upgrades – for 1,500 honor/conquest/justice/valor points you will be able to upgrade superior or epic gear by a maximum of 8 item levels. The gear has to be a minimum of iLevel 458. This will give you an excuse to keep raiding/PvPing after you have your desired gear set.

Brawler’ s guild? What Brawler’s guild? You mean the one that lets you test your ability against tough monsters and NPCs? That lets you win bragging rights, rewards, and additional activities? The one that you have to receive or find an invitation to be able to attend? Never heard of it.

Class Abilities  have undergone the usual collection of buffs, nerfs, and adjustments. All the classes received at least a tweak (and for once DKs do not head the list of “most fixes.” Maybe they’re about where Bliz wants them to be?) Check the patch notes page for details, there’s some important stuff there.

Spirits of Harmony can be purchased for 600 Conquest points from the Conquest quartermaster. These are needed by crafters for most of their high end stuff. Currently it doesn’t look like they can be bought elsewhere. So your crafter, if she wants to make the good stuff, will either have to grind the motes, hope you get a spirit from a daily quest reward, or do enough rated PvP to buy them.

Enchants: if you’re into understanding exactly how things are calculated then note that the Dancing Steel, Jade Spirit, Colossus, and River’s Song enchantments now use the Real PPM system utilized by Windsong and Elemental Force.

Pet battles – There are a lot of battle-pet notes, see the patch notes for details. Some of those notes are for bug fixes, others for increased availability of acquiring pets, and so on. Here are some high points:

  • You can upgrade your battle pets with Battle Stones. These come in two types and two qualities: General stones upgrade any pet and Specific stones will upgrade a pet within one particular pet family. Stones can be either polished or flawless, the former upgrades your pet to Uncommon, the latter to Rare.
  • General purpose Polished Battle-stones can be purchased for 1000 Justice Points. There are other ways to obtain stones.
  • Players can now keep up to 650 pets.
  • Several classic Raid bosses now have a chance to drop new Battle Pets. The new pets can be obtained from bosses in Molten Core, Blackwing Lair, Ahn’Qiraj, and Naxxramas.
Farming at Sunsong Ranch. Looks for a Barnaby Fletcher at Halfhill Market, he sells seeds that grow into items that act as Mage Portals.


  • Raid groups are no longer necessary to enter pre-Mists of Pandara raid dungeons. If you’ve been taking your 90 through the old raids you will no longer have to beg your guild to find someone willing to team with you.
  • 90s will be able to smash face in Tol Barad and Wintergrasp.
  • A new banner will appear when a player is subjected to an effect that causes them to lose control of their character. The effect that caused the loss of control and remaining duration will be displayed. (Video below)

Loss of Control

This new feature lets everyone know when they’ve lost some or all control of their character (roots, silences, etc.) and how much time remains. This has some of the functionality of the popular PvP addon: LoseControl

You can change some of the settings or disable the thing in your interface panel.

To get into those juicy dailies and PvP/PvE events as quickly as possible.

Patch 4.32 is mostly bug fixes and tweaks, but they did add a nice change in that you can now team with your Real ID friends (if you have any) for Raids (Raid Finder only) and BattleGrounds.

This does not apply to Dragon Soul raids or, I assume, Rated Battlegrounds. I’m sure that I will be corrected soon enough if that last is wrong.

The patch notes for 4.32 live aren’t up as of this writing, but you can find them on the PTR (Public Test Realm) page. More complete notes will likely make it to the live page soon.

Here are some of the tweaks.

Tanks: Vengeance is no longer triggered by receiving damage from other players. This is quite the PvP nerf. My Blood DK is crying. 😉

Hunters: They got a bit of love with this patch

  • Aspect of the Hawk now grants roughly 35% more attack power.
  • Deterrence now also reduces damage taken by 30% while active.
  • Black Arrow now ticks every 2 seconds for 20 seconds, as opposed to every 3 seconds for 15 seconds. The total damage dealt by the ability is unchanged.
  • Lock and Load no longer benefits Arcane Shot, nor is it consumed by Arcane Shot.

Mages: Guess Bliz thought Fire Mages were too hot…

  • Fireball damage has been reduced by roughly 6%.
  • Pyroblast damage has been reduced by roughly 6%.


  • Holy Radiance now costs 40% of base mana, up from 35%.


  • Mass Dispel should again prefer dispelling targets that have magic effects that can be dispelled.


  • Adrenaline Rush no longer triggers a global cooldown.

Dungeons & Raids

  • You can now form same-faction raids with Real ID friends, allowing you to enter Raid Finder in groups larger than 5, run older normal or heroic raids, or participate in Battlegrounds. You will not yet be able to run normal or heroic Dragon Soul with cross-realm raids of Real ID friends.
  • Several typo fixes and clarified descriptions have been added to the Dungeon Journal entries for Dragon Soul.
  • Players can no longer win multiple copies of the same item on a single Raid Finder boss kill. For example, a player who chooses Need on two set piece tokens or two weapons and wins the first, will not be eligible for the second on that particular boss.

Blizzard recently released Hotfixes to the 4.3 Patch.

Notably, Zul’Aman & Zul’Gurub received nerfs.

Hunters and Paladins received minor bug fixes.

A number of Dragonsoul Bosses received bug fixes.

Yor’sahj received a nerf to damage in 25-player mode, as he was believed to be overtuned/too difficult in comparison to

his 10-player version.

With the intro of the new Looking for Raid tool there have been some, ahem, concerns over the looting system. As expected, these are being attended to and Blizzard made some hot-fixes on Tues regarding this issue.

Some items were reclassified, which may result in your sending a ticket to a GM. Click the link below for a list of those items.

Also, the look rules of the Looking for Raid system were tweaked.


Some items were recently reclassified. You may find yourself in possession of one of these items and are no longer able to use it.

If this item replaced another and you need Game Master assistance to recover your old item, please place a petition with the new item name, that you can no long use it – and the old item name you need restored.

The following are the items that have changed with new/changed class restrictions (LFR Versions).

4.3 LFR Loot Changes and Bind on Account Mounts in 5.0

As a part of the on-going evaluation of Looking For Raid and the loot system, we have recently implemented a change to the Looking For Raid Need Plus system. Weapons, trinkets, rings, neck pieces, shields, offhand items, and the Robe of Glowing Stone are now class-restricted to their intended users. With the speed at which a Raid Finder group moves through a zone, we’ve found that it makes it challenging for players to evaluate loot decisions – by class restricting these items, we hope that the natural behavior will have a more positive set of results for everyone involved. This change will not apply to normal or heroic raid or dungeon loot rules.

Recently we’ve had some concerns about the numbers that are being put out by restoration shaman in a raiding environment. The next tier has promised to be much more exciting for us in many ways, from the fact that we are getting new raid content to new and exciting new bosses with new mechanics to learn and work with. Today, we’re going to focus on getting ready for this new content.

Shaman-friendlier content

Tier 12 has been nothing if not unfriendly to shaman healers in a lot of regards. Many fights require us to move out of range of each other regularly or to have the group divided, and so we don’t always get the best bang for our buck out of abilities like Healing Rain and Chain Heal as we did in tier 11. Not only that, but with a lot of avoidable damage in raids, the need of our mastery lessens and preventive measures like HOTs and Power Word: Shield become much stronger. We can still heal and hang with the team, we just have to work a little harder for it. Tier 13 though has some very promising, shaman-friendly encounters on the horizon.

We’re going to talk about Morchok a little bit here. This giant elemental who is laying siege to Wyrmrest Temple will be one of your first likely encounters. He’s big, mean and full of rocks and hate. The fight itself is incredibly fun and has many mechanics that really play into a healing shaman’s toolkit.

Raiding Rogues

will have a reason to be happy in patch 4.3 (due to be released whenever.) There’s a pair of Legendary Daggers that will be available. No lore is available yet. Expect tweaks to this item before it’s released and maybe after, as well. The existence of the new daggers has been known for awhile, but there’s a bit more new info, below.

Fangs of the Father: Legendary Proc

Shadows of the Destroyer: Increases your Agility by 17, stacking up to 50 times. Once you have acquired 30 stacks of Shadows of the Destoyer, each stack gained grants an increasing chance to trigger Fury of the Destroyer and cancel all stacks of Shadows of the Destroyer. Fury of the Destroyer immediately grants 5 combo points and causes your finishing moves to grant 5 combo points. Lasts 6 sec.

Legendary Wings: No further information on it yet, but probably related to the cosmetic effect of unfurling wings.

We’ve known for a while that the weapon will have two earlier stages like the previous legendary did, but now there’s some more information on them. Both of them also have procs:
